  3. 1. He shows a story that would be otherwise hard to tell alone. Just like during the movie and they end up in the furthest dream and land on the beach with destroyed buildings everywhere.

    3. It can be useful to connect by showing things that the audience may know about themselves. It can connect things from peoples' life to eachother. Or even people that remember their dreams well, they remember it all.

    4. After you have planned the story, you should try and visualize what you would like for it to look like, the scene.

  4. 2. The components of visual storytelling are a plot, characters, settting, etc. I think most movies have very good storytelling but maybe the best one I've seen recently is Now You See Me.
    3. It is useful for connecting with the audience because it draws on emotion and makes the audience sympathize with the protagonist.
    4. I think visual storytelling is taken into account mainly when you are story-boarding and planning out the cast and scenes in a movie/tv show.

  5. 1. Chrisopher nolan is an expert at visual storytelling, escpecially in inception, because he uses his settings and visuals to tell the stories; not just the dialogue. His skills are shown well when he creates the amazing dream world, where anything is possible.

    3. visual storytelling is important to connecting with the audience because it helps the audience visualize what dreams are and it helps us really connect with the director.

    4. visual storytelling is important throughout the planning process of making a movie.

  6. 1) Christopher Nolan is an expert at visual storytelling because of the way heuses his camera and makes the audience zone into his movies. In the flick Inception i was completely intrigued the whole time when he was trying to get out of the endless sleep.
3)Visual storytelling is used to keep the audience intrigued in your video the whole time.
    4) You must take visual storytelling into account from the beginning of your film all the way to the end of it.

  7. 1.) Christopher Nolan is an expert at visual storytelling because he can easily tell a story with a complex plot with not a huge amount of dialogue between characters. He can tell a story through one's dreams. You can enhance and refine it by planning it out and practicing.

    2.) N/A

3.) Visual storytelling helps connect to the audience by connecting to certain aspects of their lives. It brings to life the story since it connects to their real lives.

4.) The process where one takes visual storytelling into account is after the planning stage and before the making of the work.

  8. 1. never watched inception
    2. you have to have realistic props, vivid characters, and a well built story board. Movie Avatar was really amazing
    3. Because it gets the audience involved and interested in the movie
    4. after you get the script, you start story boarding the visual effects, then after start filming

  9. 2. The main components of visual storytelling is to have a main plot, climax, and resolution. An example of visual storytelling was in the movie "The Call" because they had a main plot where the girl was being kidnapped by this man and was on amber alert. The climax was when the man was about to cut the girls head open but then somebody came to save her. The movies resolution resulted in her being saved by the women from the police line.
    3. Visual storytelling is useful for connecting the audience because it allows the audience to see all the small details which is important for them to understand the story properly.
    4. We take visual storytelling into account when we are planning and writing the storyboard so that we can carry out these plans later when filming the actual movie.

  10. 2. Visual storytelling is shown with characters and facial emotion mostly. In a short film I recently watched called "Paperboy" there was no words at all but you could totally tell who the characters were because of their emotions.
    3. It is useful because it makes the audience want to watch the movie.
    4. I think you take it into account with the actors or the animation characters. You must plan it out before you film and ask yourself how you are going to get connection with the audience.

  11. 1. Because he uses very cool shots to attract the audience, like the weird gravity in the hotel and the people asleep in the van. Also, he uses powerful shots with emotion, like the final shot with the spinning top that cuts before it is determined whether it will fall or not. The entire movie really uses visual storytelling in the way the dreams affect the other dreams.

    3. Visual storytelling attracts the audience by showing things and feelings words and dialogue can't.

    4. Visual storytelling comes into the process after the plot is created and helps to write the script.

  12. 1. a specific example is in the limbo scenes, where the audience has no idea what limbo would actually look like.

  13. 1. He shows a story that would be impossible to show without visual storytelling. He is a expert in using visuals to show his message. During the movie when they are inside the Japanese building and he uses they dreams to show the story.
    3. Visual storytelling helps the audience see all different angles and see different sides of characters through there dreams.
    4. It is taken into account when you are creating the outline and planning the individual scenes.

  14. The story he crafted was unbelievably deep and intelligent, so much so that a lot of people have to re-watch the movie just to understand it.Up until the end, nothing is ever predictable, and the movie plot stays one step ahead of the viewer at all times, like a good movie should.
Based on the fact that an audience connects more with things and emotions and people that they can see, visual storytelling can connect and draw in an audience more effectively than books in a lot of ways. the fact that the audience sees what is happening right in front of them enhances the way they can connect with the movie on both a level of emotion and a level of understanding of the plot than they would otherwise

  15. 1. Christopher Nolan is considered a expert at visual story telling because he thought of the movie inception, the idea of a dream in a dream in a dream is almost impossible to imagine. All the thought he put into the movie is enough to consider him a visual story teller. I did watch Inception but it was so very long ago.

    3. For a movie to be successful, its story must make the audience emotional toward the movie, either for them to be happy or sad, angry or calm. To bring the story visually means the audience gets too see what actually happens thus making their emotional response greatly increased.

    4. Mostly, while story boarding your story you need to take the visual story telling into account.

  16. 1.Christopher Nolan's Inception was a movie that blew people's minds visually. He was exceedingly innovative in the way he did several of his shots. In one of the dream sequences he had a room that was turning on its side continually. This helped the audience realize that this was not the "real world". 2.Creating something that is unusual or plain impossible, if used sparingly, can have the audience become hypnotized.
3.Visual storytelling is very helpful because it makes the audience realize the connection or plot point, instead of having it told to them by a character.
4.The planning process is done in the storyboarding process.

  17. 1. In Inception, there are different scenes that are very creative. One of these scenes is when the actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in a room with no gravity, fighting somebody else. This scene was very interesting and a key scene in the plot. Also, his slow motion scenes are very creative; the dreams outside the dreams are slower than the dreams within the dreams.
    3. Visual storytelling is very useful for showing the audience the importance of the scenes in a film.
    4. When storyboarding, one decides what the shots and scenes are made up of, so this step it takes the most amount of visual storytelling into account.

  18. 1. He did a very well job at creating a dream inside a dream
    3. Visual storytelling connects with an audience and the audience feels like they're in the movie.
    4. For visual storytelling, a person has to draw a storyboard to plan the scenes.

  19. He is considered an expert storyteller because he has a weird confusing element to inception that leaves you with the question, what happens next how did this happen? with inception you can see his kids and his top but in the end it starts to wobble, and it asks the question, is he in reality or not? you can refine your story telling abilities by watching other movies, and learn how they do it.

it is useful for connecting with the audience because they can watch something that might not be real and connect that to different in world problems.

in the beginning you have to take to account what it is going to say or what is it going to look like in the movie.

  20. 2. The components of visual storytelling are using visuals to get a point across and to tell a story without actually having to use many words.

    3. Visual storytelling helps connect with the audience because people respond well when they can see and understand what is trying to be said. Without visuals, it would be a lot harder to really understand what was happening and getting that feeling where you lose yourself in the movie and feel like you are a part of it, and audiences usually respond well to that.

    4. Throughout the entire planning process i think visuals should be taken into account to mainly base everything off of that.

  21. 1. I have not watched inception
    2. camera angles, colors, and background. the first scene of very long engagement the first scene shows how tragic the first world war was.
    3. It connects them emotionally.

  22. 1) [I only watched the end of inception and i did not really understand it because of this]

    2) Visual storytelling was an important part of Media Arts last year. It is a great way to express the story using non-traditional methods by visual elements.

    3) Visual storytelling is an effective way to connect with the audience emotional and mentally by having the visuals explain.

4)The visual storytelling should take place shortly after the main story is established.

  23. 1. There were so many different shots like no gravity, road that is up side down.
    3. It gives audience importance of scenes.
    4. story board

  24. 1. The special effects created reactions that were powerful. The special effects created a sense of suspense and excitement. The director, often, used other visual effects to convey that the people in movie were inside a dream. However, the visual story telling didn't really build an effective plot. While it conveyed a philosophical point, about dreaming within a dream (with open ended ideas like the continuous spinning of the top at the end), it didn't have a clear plot arc that is characteristics of many movies that have good visual story telling.

    3. Visual storytelling allows the director to connect his message to the audience. With visual storytelling, the director can make a difference within the audiences' lives in an entertaining way.

    4. While planning, the story board, probably, requires the most understanding of visual storytelling.

  25. Inception is a dream inside a dream.. and a visual storytelling is very important because it allows a connection to be made between the audience and the message that is being conveyed in the story. A story can connect with the audience in many ways, including humor and most importantly what makes the movie appealing to an audience. You take visual storytelling into account after you know the main idea of the movie.

  26. 2. The visual storytelling we learned last year in Media Arts were mainly about the plot and methods you can use to create a good story. A pivotal thing we learned was how each plot should have many dramatic ups and downs. Mr. Palma showed us the many different plot shapes of you can make a story. The Dark Knight exhibited excellent visual storytelling throughout the movie. There were many ups and downs that were not only dramatic but completely drew the viewer into the film.

    3. Visual storytelling is very important to connecting with the audience because of the different plot structures and lines that they can provide to the viewer.

    4. In my opinion, visual storytelling is the largest priority when you compare it with other aspects of the movie. A movie's appeal to the viewer can dramatically fall without a good visual story.

  27. 1. Christopher Nolan is a master of visual storytelling because he has the ability to suck an audience in through fantastic dream worlds he builds himself, and pairs the original storytelling with Hans Zimmer's incredible, booming soundtrack to create a vast, absorbing universe.
    3. Visual storytelling is crucial to connecting with audiences because without it, one cannot pull the audience into the film and make the audience feel like they are experiencing and are a part of the film world.
    4. Visual storytelling is planned out the most when filmmakers are creating the storyboard. The storyboard is a step-by-step planning of the visuals of the movie.
