Intro Movie-Play First

PART 1: What is an infographic, what makes a good one.
The following are all excellent examples of infographics. Starting with the Superbowl on-air graphics package, we see how designer use text, statistics and graphics to support story communication. Please begin by watching all of these movies.

When finished, with your group of fellow After Effects designers, answer the essential question:
What is an infographic and what are the characteristics of great infographics? (this is for 5 min discussion-share you insights with Mrs. L)

Part 2: How do I make an infographic, from concept/design to Illustrator and After Effects.

Get at least 4 statistics for your movie and conceptualize what images, icons or text might be useful to design and animate. Make some thumbnail sketches, mini-storyboards.

Starting with the last frame of your storyboard (or the final resting spot for your animated statistic, design the frame in Illustrator. You may download .ai files for maps, icons of people, money, etc. You may also use photos. If confused, watch the intro movie with Illustrator Demo.

Assignment:
The After Effects group will create animations for at least 4 statistics to support your Documentary.  This would be 4 separate After Effects Files, probably short, highlighting statistics your group has found. It will be up to you to design and storyboard, create the illustrator files, and import Illustrator files into After Effects. In AE you will animate the stats combining text, charts, graphics, graphics, shapes, symbols, icons, and photos where necessary. You will need to communicate timing and format back to your documentary team.

Make sure to check in with the editor for scheduling purposes, when you should provide the 4 stat movies. Make sure to check file size, frame size, formats. These are a required part of the documentary project-your group  must incorporate these into the documentary.
